Drama on the Isle of Wight: Two Men Stuck on Cliff Face Rescued by Coastguard
Emergency Response Mobilised at Culver Down
Emergency services sprang into action this Monday evening after two men found themselves stranded on a treacherous cliff face at Culver Down, Isle of Wight. Rescue teams from the Coastguard and Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service raced to the scene to launch a daring rescue operation.
Coastguard Helicopter and Lifeboat Join the Rescue
The Bembridge Coastguard Search and Rescue Team, along with the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 175 from Lee-on-the-Solent, led the mission. Fire engines arrived with aerial ladders to assist with the high-altitude rescue, while the Sandown lifeboat was also called in for backup.
Remarkably, the Bembridge coastguard and the helicopter crew were already on training nearby when the emergency call came through, enabling them to respond swiftly.
Two Men Winched to Safety
The pair, including a local man in his 20s and a visitor, were stuck approximately 150 feet up the cliff face. They managed to alert the police, setting the rescue chain in motion.
Coastguard crews expertly winched both men to safety using the helicopter, with fire crews supporting via the aerial ladder due to the steep height.
