Police want to ID this man after a botched scam turned into a robbery in Salisbury.
Ringing the Changes Scam Goes Wrong
On March 10, around 3pm, a man tried a classic ‘ringing in the changes’ scam in a Silver Street shop. The trick involves swapping a large sum of money for smaller notes, confusing cashiers into handing over extra cash.
But the shop staff saw through the con.
Scammer Snatches £20 After Failing
When the scam failed, the suspect grabbed the staff member’s wrist and tried to steal cash directly from the till. He managed to escape with £20.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Officers are now asking the public to help identify the man pictured.

Brooke George, 23, is facing the death penalty by firing squad if convicted of murdering fellow Brit Bill Treeby, 26, after meeting him online. The former John Lewis shop assistant, who has about 100,000 followers on TikTok, is reported to have travelled to the UAE after meeting Treeby on Facebook, where he is said to have organised a photoshoot. The Mirror can reveal that he was convicted of unlawful wounding and common assault at Maidstone Crown Court in December 2023, in relation to an attack on a woman and a man. Treeby was sentenced to 14 months in prison, suspended for two years, a court official confirmed. She said her first visit to the country lasted about a week and was positive, describing it as “the time of my life”. She described the experience as “deeply humiliating and distressing”, breaking down in tears when recounting it to her family.
