Lieutenant Rhodri Leyshon Dies in Training Crash
The Royal Navy has identified Lieutenant Rhodri Leyshon, 31, as the serviceman who died after a Merlin Mk4 helicopter crashed into the English Channel during a night-flying exercise on Wednesday. The helicopter was escorting a royal ship off Dorset when it ditched into the water.
Two Crew Survive, Lt Leyshon Tragically Lost
Two other crew members survived and were rushed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Sadly, Lt Leyshon could not be saved.
Family Pays Heartfelt Tribute
“Rhod was so immeasurably loved by his parents, siblings, partner, friends, and family. He was devoted to them. Our lives will never be the same without him,” his family said.
They described him as “talented, passionate, strong, and loyal” and called him their “wonderful boy,” while asking for privacy during their grief.
Ministry of Defence Launches Investigation
The Ministry of Defence has opened an investigation into the crash. Lt Leyshon was a highly valued Royal Navy member, known for exceptional skill and dedication.
