Beware! Isle of Wight Tax Voucher Scam on the Rise

Police on the Isle of Wight have issued a stark warning about a nasty new scam. Fraudsters are ringing up locals, pretending to be from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). Their pressure? Demand payments for fake tax bills – but only via Amazon vouchers.

Scammers Threaten Arrest Over Amazon Vouchers

The scammers claim you face arrest unless you cough up by buying large amounts of Amazon gift cards. It’s a classic con – aimed at scaring people into handing over cash quickly.

Investigation Launched After Multiple Reports

Several residents have reported these calls to police. An official probe is now underway. So far, officers haven’t confirmed whether anyone actually fell for the trick and purchased the vouchers. But at least 20 calls have been recorded targeting islanders.

Remember: HMRC will never ask for payment via vouchers. If you get a suspicious call demanding money, hang up and report it immediately.
