Chaos in Hull City Centre as Violence Erupts After Protest

Hull city centre is on high alert tonight as police tackle a large gang causing chaos following a demonstration that took a violent turn this afternoon.

From Peaceful Protest to Rampage

What started as a peaceful demo quickly spiralled into mayhem. Vehicles and local businesses faced heavy damage. One shop was torched, with wheelie bins and tyres set ablaze across Ferensway, Jameson Street, Spring Bank, and Grey Street. Emergency services have since put out all fires, but the damage is done.

Police Step Up with Mass Arrests

Assistant Chief Constable Mike Walker gave a stark update:

“We’ve arrested 20 people for public order offences today. We won’t tolerate this senseless violence and disorder.”

“Lawful protest is a right in a democracy and our officers have protected that. But the vandalism, antisocial behaviour, and sheer violence? Absolutely not.”

“We’ve called in reinforcements from other forces to stamp out this chaos. Ten officers were hurt trying to keep the peace – it’s unacceptable.”

Police Hunt Culprits; Appeal for Eyewitnesses

Police are combing CCTV and social media footage, urging locals to come forward.

“If you’ve got dashcam or mobile footage, or any info about today’s disorder, call 101 and quote log 144 of 3 August. You can also report confidentially via the Major Incident Public Portal,” said ACC Walker.

“We know these events have shaken the community. Rest assured, those responsible will be hunted down and brought to justice.”

Hull Reeling as Police Maintain Heavy Presence

The city remains tense after significant damage to businesses and property. Police patrols will remain stepped up as they work to restore calm.

How to Help

Humberside Police are determined to bring the violent troublemakers to justice and protect Hull’s communities.
