Over 60 firefighters and 10 fire engines have descended on Abby’s Grill on London Road, Croydon, after flames burst from the restaurant’s ventilation system.
Blaze Breaks Out in Roof Above Takeaway
The alarm was sounded just after 6pm on Monday 17th April, following multiple emergency calls reporting a fire erupting from the rear ventilation area.
The blaze is believed to have started in the roof space above the takeaway, which is nestled among several residential buildings, putting multiple homes at risk.
Massive Response and Local Disruption
A large cordon has been established as firefighters battle the blaze in this densely built area. The London Fire Brigade’s specialist drone team has been deployed to assist commanders in managing the fire.
Nearby roads including the A23 London Road are closed both ways between Craignish Avenue and Northborough Road, with local buses rerouted to avoid the chaos.
Evacuations and Safety Precautions Underway
Met Police officers are enforcing the cordon and have evacuated neighbouring properties. Residents in the vicinity have been urged to keep windows and doors closed for their safety.
