Tesco Cheese Recall: Popular Raclette Pulled Over Deadly Listeria Fears

Tesco shoppers are on high alert after Castelli UK Ltd urgently recalled Le Superbe Raclette (150g). A batch sold exclusively at Tesco tested positive for listeria monocytogenes, a nasty bug that can cause serious illness including meningitis and pregnancy complications.

Which Cheese Is Affected?

  • Le Superbe Raclette 150g
  • Best before date: 12 May 2025
  • Sold exclusively at Tesco

If you’ve bought this from Tesco, do NOT eat it. Return to any Tesco store for a full refund — no receipt needed. Cheese bought elsewhere is safe.

Why Is Listeria Dangerous?

Listeria is a foodborne bacterium that can cause listeriosis, with symptoms like:

  • High fever
  • Muscle aches
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Chills

In severe cases, it can trigger meningitis, sepsis, and even death. Vulnerable groups include:

  • Pregnant women
  • People over 65
  • Babies under 1 month
  • Anyone with a weakened immune system

What Should You Do Now?

  • Don’t eat the recalled cheese.
  • Return it to any Tesco for a full refund, no questions asked.
  • If you can’t return it, dispose of it safely to keep others safe.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has shared the recall and urges those at higher risk to be extra cautious.

Common Foods That Carry Listeria Risk

  • Soft cheeses like camembert, brie, and blue cheese
  • Deli meats and cold cuts
  • Pâté
  • Ready-to-eat salads and sandwiches
  • Pre-cut fruit
  • Smoked fish
  • Unpasteurised dairy products

Tips to Stay Safe from Listeria

  • Keep your fridge at 5°C or below
  • Eat chilled foods within four hours of removal from the fridge
  • Follow use-by dates and storage advice strictly
  • Wash hands thoroughly before and during food preparation
  • Keep raw and ready-to-eat foods separate

Stay safe and double-check your fridge for that Raclette – better safe than sorry!
