Two Children Die in Hit-and-Run Tragedy in Pitsea
Essex Police have confirmed a heartbreaking crash in Pitsea that claimed the lives of two children on Saturday, 1 February 2025. A 16-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl were hit by a car on Ashlyns at around 6:25pm.
The driver fled the scene, sparking a swift police investigation.
Man and Woman Arrested Over Fatal Collision
Shortly after the crash, a man and a woman in their 20s were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop after the collision. Both remain in police custody as inquiries continue.
“Specialist officers are supporting the loved ones of the two children who sadly died yesterday,” said Detective Sergeant Sam Nason, leading the investigation. “My team is working tirelessly to give them the answers they need about what happened.”
He added, “At this stage, we are not providing any more information about the boy and girl who have died, and I would ask that their privacy, and that of their loved ones, is respected. I know there is a lot of interest in what happened last night, but I would also urge people not to speculate.”
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
Essex Police are appealing for help from anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell footage. They want to piece together exactly what happened.
“If you have information about the collision, please contact my team,” DS Nason urged.
Officers praised emergency services and members of the public who tried to assist at the scene.
