Two Arrested in UK Over High-Speed Migrant Boat Caught in Belgium
Belgian Police Stop Speedboat Packed with Migrants
On 30 October, Belgian police intercepted a high-powered rigid-hulled inflatable boat near Nieuwpoort in Flanders. Twelve migrants, thought to be Albanian nationals, were detained. Alongside them, two men from Basingstoke, Hampshire, were arrested on suspicion of people smuggling.
NCA Snags Third Suspect in Buckinghamshire
The UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) also picked up a third suspect linked to the smuggling gang in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. While he was later released under investigation, the NCA continues to probe the network.
Recent Raids in Sherwood Net Two More Arrests
On 29 November around 10pm, NCA officers stormed a property off Mansfield Road in Sherwood. They arrested two Albanian men, aged 44 and 48, on suspicion of aiding unlawful immigration. Both remain in custody being questioned.
NCA Vows to Crack Down on People Smugglers
Branch Commander Colin Williams: “Our investigation targets those involved in the October attempt to dodge UK border controls using a high-speed boat. Tackling people smugglers is a priority for the NCA. We’re working hard to dismantle the networks affecting the UK, at home and abroad.”
The NCA is collaborating closely with Belgian Federal Police, Border Force, and Immigration Enforcement to shut down this dangerous smuggling operation.
