British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has issued a red alert for all UK nationals in Lebanon to “leave immediately.” The warning comes as the situation there spirals out of control, with violent clashes escalating rapidly.

Speaking from New York at the UN General Assembly, Starmer revealed that the government is stepping up contingency plans. A force of 700 British troops has been sent to Cyprus, primed to launch an evacuation if needed. Royal Navy ships and RAF aircraft stand by, ready to swoop in amid growing chaos.

“The most important message from me to British nationals in Lebanon is to leave immediately. Now is the time to leave,” Starmer stressed.

Death Toll Soars as Hezbollah-Israel Conflict Explodes

In just 24 hours, more than 500 people have died in Lebanon amid deadly Israeli air strikes responding to attacks by Hezbollah militants. The militant group has fired over 8,000 rockets into Israel since 8 October 2023, following Hamas’s brutal assault.

Defence Secretary John Healey urged calm: “We continue to urge all sides to step back from conflict to prevent further tragic loss of life.”

He also praised UK forces in the region for their professionalism as they prepare to assist British citizens.

The ongoing bloodshed will dominate discussions at the UN this week, where diplomats will push for peace and humanitarian aid. Tensions have soared since Hamas’s attack last October sparked fierce fighting between Hezbollah and Israeli forces, leaving Lebanon torn apart.
