Massive Tower Block Blaze Tears Through Islington
Ten fire engines and 70 firefighters were scrambled to a blazing tower block in Islington on Sunday evening. The emergency ignited at Godfrey House on Bath Street just before 6pm, sending thick plumes of smoke billowing into the sky.
Flames Rip Through High-Rise
The fire reportedly started somewhere four floors below the 19th floor, where a resident first reported the smell of burning and smoke. Scores of people are believed to still be inside the building as crews battle the inferno.
Chaos on the Streets as Roads Shut
- Old Street and Bath Street closed both ways
- Drivers urged to find alternative routes
- A new aerial ladder platform deployed for the high-rise fire
Firefighters have been setting up a water supply, securing firefighting lifts, and establishing a bridgehead to tackle the ferocious blaze. The cause remains under investigation.
“A resident on the 19th floor reported the smell of burning and smoke four floors below,” said an insider. “The response includes an aerial ladder platform as part of standard high-rise protocol.”
The London Fire Brigade has been approached for further comment. More updates to follow as the situation develops.
