Historic Hastings Church Vandalised: Police Step Up Patrols

Hastings Police have ramped up patrols around the Old St Helens Church after vandals caused major damage. Between May 9 and May 16, trespassers smashed sandstone blocks around the ancient tower wall, leaving the site badly damaged.

Ancient Monument Targeted

The Old St Helens Church is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a Grade II listed building—one of Hastings’ oldest landmarks. The vandalism has sparked outrage among local residents and heritage groups due to the church’s huge historical importance.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Officers are urging anyone with information or who spotted suspicious behaviour near the church to come forward. You can call 101 or report online quoting reference 0819 21/05/2024. Help catch those responsible before more damage is done to this treasured site.
