Hero Cop PC Jess Bell Nominated for Top Bravery Award After Daring Roof Rescue

West Yorkshire Officer’s Life-Saving Bravery

A West Yorkshire police officer has been hailed a hero after a hair-raising rescue that saved a man’s life. PC Jess Bell’s fearless response to a violent incident has earned her a nomination for the National Police Bravery Awards 2024.

Confronting Danger on a Rooftop

Called to a tense scene, PC Bell faced a man in the grip of a paranoid psychotic episode. The individual was high on drugs, armed with a kitchen knife, and perched on the roof of a two-story building, threatening self-harm.

Despite the extreme risk, PC Bell calmly talked him down, promising help. When he began harming himself, the situation spiralled.

Bold Solo Rescue and Tactical Skill

With fire crews unable to approach while the man was still armed, PC Bell took a gamble. She climbed the ladder alone to confront the knife-wielding individual on the rooftop. Employing expert training, she used her Taser multiple times, ultimately disarming him and providing crucial first aid.

Praise from Top Brass

Chief Constable John Robins applauded PC Bell’s “exceptional bravery and professionalism.” West Yorkshire Federation Chair Craig Nicholls echoed the praise, calling her actions “a true example of outstanding care and commitment to saving lives.”

PC Jess Bell’s National Police Bravery Award nomination cements her status as a fearless protector, going above and beyond to keep her community safe against the odds.
