Callum Walsh Jailed for 13½ Years Over Stabbing and Abuse Spree

Callum Walsh, 29, from Barnham, has been locked up for 13.5 years at Lewes Crown Court. The sentence covers a brutal 2021 stabbing and a violent, controlling relationship that followed in 2023.

Violent Stabbing in Littlehampton

On May 23, 2021, Walsh was drinking with a male friend in Littlehampton when a row exploded into violence. Walsh smashed a bottle over his friend’s head before stabbing him, leaving the victim seriously injured. Walsh was arrested the next day, charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, and released on court bail.

Abusive Relationship Turns Severe

While awaiting trial, Walsh started dating a woman in her 20s in December 2022. The relationship quickly spiralled into abuse. Walsh’s paranoia and controlling behaviour escalated, with violent outbursts whenever he lost control.

The abuse culminated in a vicious assault on January 14, 2023. The victim bravely escaped and called the police, who launched a manhunt. Walsh was arrested months later in Cornwall and charged with non-fatal strangulation, actual bodily harm, and coercive control.

Guilty Pleas and Tough Sentence

Walsh pleaded guilty to the 2021 stabbing and the strangulation charge at Lewes Crown Court in November. Other charges were left on file.

Judge handed down a hefty sentence of 13.5 years — 8.5 years behind bars and 5 years on extended licence.

Detective Inspector Gary Jacobs said: “Callum Walsh is a violent offender who was rightly found by the court to pose a clear danger to the public.

“Thankfully, both victims have physically recovered but will carry psychological scars for life. Their courage helped ensure Walsh is now behind bars, unable to hurt anyone else.”

“If you or someone you know faces abuse or control, contact police online, via 101 or dial 999 in an emergency. We offer discreet reporting and support without the abuser knowing.”
