Eastbourne Man Jailed for Brutal Home Attack
Jamil Wilson, 47, from Wilmington Gardens, Eastbourne, has been locked up for seven and a half years. He was convicted of grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent after a horrific assault in Brighton. The sentencing happened at Lewes Crown Court on January 2.
Hours-Long Assault Leaves Victim Brain-Damaged
On October 12, 2022, between 7 and 10 pm, Wilson viciously attacked a 27-year-old man he knew. The victim endured several hours of terror, suffering severe head and facial injuries, including a brain haemorrhage.
Heroic Bystanders’ Quick Thinking Saves Life
During the attack, another resident of the Chelwood Close property returned home and saw the battered victim. Wilson stopped them from calling for help. The brave resident escaped through a window and flagged down a bus driver, who immediately alerted emergency services.
Police followed cries for help to a nearby field, where they caught Wilson assaulting the man and quickly arrested him. The victim was rushed to hospital for urgent treatment.
Investigating Officer Praises Courage and Justice Delivered
“This was a shocking attack on a vulnerable man inside his home,” said Detective Rose Horan. “Wilson caused horrific facial and head injuries, then dragged and tried to strangle the victim in a nearby field.
“Thanks to the quick and courageous actions of the resident and the bus driver, police were able to intervene in time. The victim received substantial support throughout the judicial process to address the trauma.
“This violent offender is now off the streets for many years.”
