£7 Million Boost for Scotland’s Green Hydrogen Revolution

Scotland is set to turbocharge its green hydrogen ambitions with up to £7 million in government funding. Businesses can now bid for cash to kick-start projects producing between 5 and 400 megawatts of green hydrogen—enough to heat 200 to over 16,000 homes.

Funding to Power the Hydrogen Economy

The cash will cover development costs for green hydrogen production and support work on supply chains and storage solutions. This funding push aims to help the industry scale rapidly to meet soaring demand.

Organisations can apply for up to £2 million in match-funding until the end of the month. The scheme, managed by Scottish Enterprise, builds on nearly £7 million already pumped into 31 hydrogen projects across Scotland since 2023.

Ministers and Experts Back the Green Drive

“Our energy sector, and the development of green hydrogen in particular, will play a crucial role in growing Scotland’s economy and delivering on our net zero targets,” said Acting Minister for Climate Action Alasdair Allan.

“Thanks to Scotland’s vast renewable energy resources, we’re perfectly placed to lead the hydrogen revolution. This funding will jumpstart green hydrogen projects and hubs nationwide, unlocking new opportunities to use and export hydrogen and power future clean industries.

“It’s proof that Scotland is ready to lead the renewable energy charge and underlines our commitment to grow the hydrogen sector—one of five priorities in our Green Industrial Strategy.”

Scottish Enterprise Director of Energy Transition Suzanne Sosna added: “This new fund is critical to getting green hydrogen projects off the ground and building Scotland’s hydrogen economy.

“Renewable energy, including green hydrogen, has the power to transform Scotland’s economy, and we’re fully committed to backing hydrogen production, storage, and offtake businesses.”
