Teen’s Jail Term Boosted Over Olly Stephens Killing
A teenager originally handed a 3 year and 2 month sentence for the manslaughter of Olly Stephens has had the term hiked to five years. Three appeal judges ruled the original sentence was far too soft.
Deadly Ambush After Social Media Row
Olly, 14, was lured to a field near his Reading home following a social media dispute. There, he was brutally ambushed. The boy, who was just 13 at the time, admitted manslaughter.
Two Others Get Long Sentences for Murder
- Two boys, aged 14, were convicted of murder at Reading Crown Court.
- One got 13 years, the other 12 years in youth custody.
- All three were sentenced in September to young offender institutions.
Appeal Judges Slam Original Ruling
Lady Justice Macur, Mr Justice Picken, and Judge Mark Lucraft handled the appeal hearing. They found that Judge Heather Norton erred in sentencing the teen.
Barrister Tom Little QC, representing Solicitor General Alex Chalk, argued the initial 3-year sentence was “unduly lenient.”
For legal reasons, none of the convicted teens can be named.
