Dorset Police Sergeant Caught in Scandal Over Improper Relationships with Team

Three Misconduct Counts Between 2021-22

A Dorset Police sergeant has been found guilty of three counts of misconduct for pursuing inappropriate relationships with officers under his direct command. The behaviour occurred between April 2021 and May 2022, according to a disciplinary panel.

Sergeant Resigns, Avoids Hearing

The sergeant, whose name remains confidential, did not attend the hearing at the Dorset Police HQ in Winfrith. He had already admitted the allegations and resigned from the force in August 2022. An anonymity order was imposed to protect his welfare, as explained by Deni Matthews, the legally qualified chairman overseeing the case.

“The purpose is to protect the welfare of the officer concerned.”

Top Brass Condemn Behaviour as ‘Discredit to Police’

Deputy Chief Constable Sam de Reya, the force’s lead for professional standards, slammed the sergeant’s conduct as “unacceptable” and a “gross misconduct” that abused his position of power. She emphasised that officers must uphold the highest standards of integrity and that robust investigations will follow any suspected wrongdoing.

“It is unacceptably inappropriate for a sergeant in a position of authority to engage in improper relationships with colleagues under his supervision and care.” “This officer should have known the relationships he was forming were unprofessional and an abuse of his position.” “If he had not resigned, an immediate notice of dismissal would have been imposed.”

Clear Warning to Police and Public

The disciplinary outcome sends a strong message: such behaviour won’t be tolerated at Dorset Police. The public and officers alike are urged to report any concerns about breaches of professional standards.

If you suspect misconduct, report it to Dorset Police for a thorough investigation.
