Sunderland thug Buzz Smith caged for 28 months after vicious attack on teens
Buzz Smith, 28, from Shields Road, Sunderland, has been locked up for 28 months after pleading guilty to two counts of actual bodily harm (ABH) and one count of theft. The sentencing took place at Newcastle Crown Court on Tuesday 31 January.
Brutal attack near South Shields Metro station
The court heard Smith targeted a 17-year-old boy on the evening of 8 April 2021 as he walked from Brockley Whins Metro station in South Shields. Smith demanded a cigarette before savagely punching the teen to the ground, knocking out one of his teeth.
He then stole the victim’s phone and ran off. The injured boy managed to make it back to the station to raise the alarm and was later helped home by a stranger.
Smith strikes again, assaults 14-year-old witness
On their way home, the pair crossed paths with a group of teenagers who had seen the attack and called the police. Smith then turned violent on a 14-year-old boy from the group, demanding money and punching him twice in the face, smashing his glasses.
Investigator slams Smith as cowardly bully
“Smith is an opportunistic bully who behaved in the most cowardly manner, picking on two defenceless young boys,” said DS Graham Marshall-Batey. “Both his victims remain affected by what happened that evening. One is still receiving dental treatment as a result of Smith’s violence.”
DS Marshall-Batey added: “While incidents like these are very rare on the rail network, we will always do everything possible to bring offenders to justice.”
