Ex-Lover Jailed for 27 Years After Shooting Woman in Face with Homemade Gun
Tyrone Harvey unleashed terror on his ex-partner by shooting her in the face with a converted handgun loaded with homemade ammo. The attack happened at her Derby home on January 11, 2021 — just one day before she was due in court seeking a non-molestation order to stop him contacting her.
Face Shattered by Ball Bearing After Argument
In the early hours of January 11, Harvey turned up at the victim’s Warren Street house. Following a brief row, he fired the small black handgun directly at the 34-year-old woman’s face. The ball bearing blasted through her cheekbone and became lodged in her face, requiring surgery to remove.
Police quickly launched a manhunt for Harvey’s getaway car. Armed officers caught him in Chesterfield, discovering a black firearm magazine, a blank firing round, blank pistol instructions, and metal pellets inside.
Denial Falls Flat as Jury Convicts for Attempted Murder
Harvey, from Chattaway Street, Birmingham, denied all involvement. But the victim bravely stepped up, giving powerful testimony in court. After a trial at Derby Crown Court, the jury found him guilty of attempted murder.
He was hit with a hefty 27-year prison sentence.
“Tyrone Harvey is a seriously dangerous individual who thought nothing of using extreme violence to try intimidate, control and harm his ex-partner,” said Detective Inspector Brian Bilby, lead investigator. “She used her voice to send him to prison for nearly three decades.”
DI Bilby praised the victim’s courage and the relentless police team behind the case. The judge noted the domestic setting and ex-partner relationship as aggravating factors, adding weight to the sentence.
Warning to Victims: The Law Will Protect You
