Wellingborough Man Jailed for Brutal Domestic Abuse Campaign
Royston Kevin Evans launched a vile campaign of abuse against his partner starting in March 2021. What began as petty put-downs quickly spiralled into shocking physical violence and extreme control.
Control, Choking, and Nighttime Tyranny
Evans dictated every part of his victim’s life. He restricted who she could talk to, banned her from leaving the house, and forced her to seek permission just to use the bathroom at night. The abuse turned violent with Evans choking her repeatedly and carrying out numerous assaults.
In one terrifying incident outside Wellingborough Police Station, officers witnessed Evans pinning the woman against the wall as she desperately tried to buzz for help.
Justice Served at Northampton Crown Court
A police investigation led to Evans’ arrest and charge. On March 14, Northampton Crown Court sentenced him to four-and-a-half years behind bars. One year of that sentence relates to a separate dangerous driving charge.
“Royston Evans’ behaviour was truly deplorable. Over time, he controlled this woman, a person he was meant to love, by decimating her confidence piece by piece,” said Lead Investigator DC Stacey Hill from Northamptonshire Police’s Domestic Abuse Team.
“It took enormous courage for her to report this and support the investigation. We never underestimate the strength it takes survivors to see criminal proceedings through.”
DC Hill continued, “I’m proud of the bravery she has shown and hope this verdict helps her find closure and move on. If you’re trapped in an abusive relationship, we urge you to reach out. We listen, understand, and never judge.”
