Hotel Tycoon Sir Richard Sutton Stabbed to Death in Dorset Tragedy

Millionaire hotelier Sir Richard Sutton, 83, was fatally stabbed during a horrific incident at his property near Gillingham, Dorset, on Wednesday evening.

Double Stabbing Shakes Quiet Dorset Village

Dorset Police were called to a home in Higher Langham at 7.30pm after concerns for the occupants’ welfare. Officers found Sir Richard and a woman in her 60s with serious stab wounds.

Despite urgent ambulance efforts, Sir Richard died at 9.15pm. An official post-mortem confirmed he died from stab wounds to the chest. The woman was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in bristol/" title="Bristol" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Bristol and remains in critical condition.

Man Arrested and Charged Following Attack

Thomas Schreiber, 34, from Gillingham, was arrested in London on Wednesday evening on suspicion of murder. Following hospital treatment for minor injuries, he was charged on Friday with:

  • Murder of Sir Richard Sutton
  • Attempted murder of the woman
  • Dangerous driving

Schreiber is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Monday 12 April.

“Our thoughts remain with the victims’ family and all those affected by this terrible incident,” said Detective Inspector Simon Huxter of Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team. “We have worked closely with the Crown Prosecution Service and received authorisation to charge Thomas Schreiber.”
