ATM Bomber Busted After High-Speed Chase Near York
In March, a gang of cash-craving crooks blew up ATMs in Shepshed, Adwick near Doncaster, and Starbeck, Harrogate. Their reckless bomb blasts not only snatched cash but left local communities shaken and services severely damaged.
Stolen Car Crash Ends Wild Police Pursuit
The crew used a stolen vehicle to carry out the raids. When police spotted them near York, they sparked a dangerous high-speed chase, risking lives on the roads. The thieves crashed at York Designer Outlet and bolted into the countryside. But their luck ran out when a police helicopter spotted them hiding inside a tree trunk. Officers quickly closed in and arrested the pair on foot.
Heavy Sentences Handed Down
Frederick Squires, from Castleacre Road, Swaffham, Norfolk, was slammed with 8 years and 6 months behind bars and banned from driving for over 7 years. His 16-year-old accomplice got a two-year detention and training order.
“The sentences given to these two individuals today are a clear demonstration that this type of crime will not be tolerated, either in North Yorkshire or across the country,” said North Yorkshire Police Detective Superintendent Fran Naughton.
