Abuser Sent Down After Brutal Year of Torture

Jagjit Randhawa, formerly of 1, has been jailed for nearly three years after subjecting his ex-partner to a terrifying year of physical and psychological abuse.

Night of Horror Leads to Arrest

In March 2021, the victim called police, reporting that Randhawa had punched, kicked, and strangled her throughout the night. The horrific assault marked the breaking point after months of control and violence.

Following his arrest, she bravely revealed the full extent of his abuse. She described repeated assaults and relentless coercive behaviour that left her isolated and traumatised.

Disturbing Control Tactics

Randhawa claimed to suffer from an eating disorder, forcing the victim to spend hours in the kitchen preparing meals to his exacting standards. If a dish didn’t meet his approval, he made her throw it away and start over.

Sometimes, she was forced to feed him by hand or wash his hands for hours. Randhawa cut her off from friends and family, even blocking her from seeing her own child over Christmas by forbidding her to answer the door.

Justice Served at Northampton Crown Court

Randhawa pleaded guilty to three offences and was sentenced to two years and eight months behind bars on March 18. An indefinite restraining order was also imposed to protect the victim and her family.

Lead Investigator PC Matt Blaney said: “I want to commend this woman for her bravery. She reported the abuse and saw the case through to conviction. Randhawa is now where he belongs – in a cell.”

“The fact this was the first call we received from her shows we can get convictions on first reports. We never give up on victims of domestic abuse.”
