Sheffield Man Found Guilty of Brutal Knife Attack
Krisztian Szabo, once of Shoreham Street, Sheffield, has been found guilty of a terrifying attack that left a young woman fearing for her life. The victim was left dizzy and traumatised after Szabo’s violent assault in August 2019.
Violent Assault Caught on CCTV
Szabo’s trial at Sheffield Crown Court began on 4 January. Charged with Section 18 assault and possession of a bladed weapon, the 6 January verdict found him guilty on both counts.
The horrific attack took place at 7.25am on 11 August 2019. Szabo picked up the 28-year-old victim from Rutland Street in his car before driving to the Vale Road area. He then launched a savage attack, repeatedly punching her and slashing her head with a knife as she desperately tried to escape.
Police Praise Victim’s Courage
Detective Constable Helen Critchley, leading the investigation, said:
“This must have been an absolutely terrifying attack and I commend the victim for her courage and support throughout our inquiry.
“Szabo’s sustained assault left her feeling dizzy and scared, but she managed to flee his car, running to a nearby business to raise the alarm. She was so terrified she left all her belongings behind.”
Police used CCTV footage to track the attack. Cameras showed Szabo’s car arriving in Vale Road, the victim escaping with a severe head wound, and Szabo’s car speeding away. Forensic experts later found the victim’s blood inside the vehicle.
Remorseless Attacker Faces Sentence
The victim’s horrific head injury needed stitches and her bruises revealed the ferocity of Szabo’s punches. Despite the evidence and victim testimony, Szabo showed no remorse.
DC Critchley added:
“Szabo’s lack of accountability forced the victim to relive this traumatic ordeal in court. Thanks to the strong evidence and her brave testimony, a dangerous man has been convicted and removed from society.”
“This incident has had a profound impact on the victim, a vulnerable young woman. We hope this guilty verdict helps her start the journey to recovery.”
Szabo remains in custody and will return to Sheffield Crown Court on 17 February for sentencing.
