Birmingham Man Jailed 11 Years for Daesh Terror Offences

Kyle Marcano, 28, from Birmingham, was slammed with an 11-year jail sentence yesterday at Birmingham Crown Court. He was convicted in April of four counts of disseminating terrorist publications and one count of membership of a banned terror group.

Terror Chat Group and Daesh Loyalty Exposed

The court heard Marcano was part of a terrorist chat group where extremist material was shared. He pledged allegiance to the former Daesh leader and sent out terror propaganda, including a chilling recruitment video. Marcano had already pleaded guilty last November to four terrorism offences, including spreading terrorist publications.

Arrest Uncovers Extensive Terror Links

Marcano’s arrest came in March 2023 during an unrelated probe, where officers seized his phone. The device revealed his involvement in the terror chat group, triggering a fresh arrest for terrorism offences.

Accomplice Also Sentenced

Another group member, 19-year-old Muhammed Maroof from Birmingham, admitted guilt earlier this year for distributing terrorist material. He received a 4-year-and-10-month sentence.

Police Vow to Crack Down on Terror Networks

Detective Chief Superintendent Alison Hurst, Head of West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit, said: “The jury found Marcano guilty of being a fully-fledged member of Daesh from the evidence presented in court. Both Marcano and Maroof knowingly shared videos and images containing extremely dangerous content.”

“We will continue to protect local communities by working closely with partners and the CPS to pursue and prosecute anyone supporting terrorism. Our priority is the safety and security of all those living, working, and visiting the West Midlands.”

Marcano has also been slapped with a four-year extended licence after being declared a dangerous offender.
