Burglar Uses Manhole Covers to Raid Businesses Across Kent
A daring burglar who smashed into shops and restaurants in Rochester, Sheerness, and Canterbury using manhole covers has been locked up for three years.
Targeted 10 Businesses, Struck in the Dead of Night
Between 5 and 20 March 2020, 25-year-old Dale Pearson pulled off six successful break-ins and four attempts. Using nearby manhole covers or smashing windows, he invaded restaurants, newsagents, and hairdressers under the cover of darkness.
Inside, he made off with mobile phones, cash, food, cigarettes, and even a charity box.
Caught Red-Handed and Sent Down
Pearson, from Bill Street Road, Rochester, was nabbed on 20 March 2020 after police responded to five break-ins in Sheerness town centre. Officers found him nearby with stolen goods stuffed in a plastic bag.
He later pleaded guilty to eight charges at Maidstone Crown Court on 20 April 2020 and was sentenced to three years behind bars.
“Pearson is a prolific burglar causing disruption and damage to many businesses across Kent,” said Detective Constable Nicola Emery from the Crime Squad.
“I am glad this man has been suitably punished with a significant prison sentence.”
