Woman’s Phone and Cards Stolen at Self-Service Till
A shocking theft unfolded at Quarry Wood Industrial Estate around 2pm on Monday, 6 March 2023. A woman using a self-service cash till was distracted, and in that brief moment, her phone and bank cards vanished.
Thief Uses Stolen Card to Buy Phone and Withdraw Cash
The audacious culprit didn’t waste time. One stolen card was used to buy a mobile phone right in the same store. Worse, the thief also sneaked to a nearby ATM and drained cash from her account.
Police Urge Public to Spot Suspect on CCTV
“We are releasing CCTV images of a man who may be able to assist with our enquiries. Anybody who recognises him is urged to contact our appeal line,” said investigating officer PC Bobby.
He warned shoppers: “Be careful when out and about to avoid becoming a victim of opportunist thieves. Always shield your PIN when using cash machines or paying, never leave your handbag unattended, and lock your car after unloading shopping.”
PC Bobby also advised caution if strangers strike up conversations outside the store, saying it could be a distraction tactic.
