Callous Attack on Blind Woman Ends in Jail
Steven Ball stalked a vulnerable woman in her 40s, who uses a white stick, before mugging her in broad daylight.
Stalked and Robbed in White Street
On 15 March, Ball followed the woman deep into the city centre, then pounced on White Street. He pushed her, grabbed her coat, and rifled through her pockets, stealing just £25.
Quick Arrest After Eyewitness Tip-Off
Two passers-by recognised 42-year-old Ball at the scene. Police swooped and arrested him at his home on Adelaide Street later that day. Although Ball initially denied the charge, two witnesses identified him in an ID parade.
Three Years Behind Bars for Callous Crime
Facing the mounting evidence, Ball pled guilty on 25 October. He was sentenced two days later to three years in prison.
“This was an absolutely callous and cowardly act which has hugely affected the victim,” said PC James Rees. “It has completely dented her confidence, leaving her struggling to sleep. She is far more cautious about going outside on her own and has to rely on others around her. I hope she is comforted to know her assailant is behind bars.”
