Daredevil biker who pulled wheelies on Brighton roads is behind bars!

Wild Wheelies and Police Chase

Ryan Burtenshaw, 24, shocked onlookers and officers by performing dangerous wheelie stunts on his motorcycle along Old Shoreham Road towards Dyke Road in Brighton last January. The Specialist Enforcement Unit (SEU) were hot on his tail in an unmarked police car.

When cops finally caught up, Burtenshaw refused to stop, popping another wheelie before flooring it through a 20mph zone, showing complete disregard for pedestrians and drivers.

The reckless ride saw him narrowly miss colliding with people and vehicles during a short but hair-raising police pursuit.

Danger on Wet Roads and Evasion Tactics

The chase unfolded on slick streets following a heavy downpour on January 8. Burtenshaw even managed to dodge capture for a while by hurtling through roadworks that blocked officers’ path.

But police identified him as the registered owner of the bike, and he later admitted to riding dangerously and fleeing from officers.

Jailed and Banned: The Court’s Verdict

  • Burtenshaw pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving without a proper licence, and lacking valid insurance.
  • He was slammed with a five-month jail sentence and banned from driving for one year and eight months.
  • The court confiscated his motorcycle under a Deprivation Order.
  • He must pass an extended driving test before getting back behind the handlebars after his release.

Police Send a Strong Message

“This case shows our commitment to catching offenders and keeping Brighton and Hove’s roads safe,” said Chief Inspector Andy Saville.

“Burtenshaw put lives at risk. Now he’s been jailed, disqualified, and lost his bike.”

The reckless rider’s joyride has ended – a warning to others who think they can flout road laws with impunity.
