Fast and Furious Chase Ends in Horror Crash on A61

Billy Morrison recklessly sped at 111mph while police chased him down the A61 at Skipton on Swale. The high-speed drama ended in disaster when Morrison smashed into a row of vehicles, leaving a woman in her 80s with 11 broken bones. She suffered cracked ribs, fractured vertebrae, and broken ankle bones, and is still battling to recover.

Passengers Seriously Injured After 4×4 Overturns

The 20-year-old from Barnsley was driving a Mitsubishi Shogun 4×4 that flipped during the crash. A passenger in his vehicle was seriously hurt and Morrison himself had to stop working due to his own injuries. The chaotic incident happened in September, just weeks after Morrison was banned from driving.

Banned Driver Faces Heavy Jail Time

Morrison was arrested immediately. Police investigations revealed he had been driving illegally, despite a recent ban. He faced multiple charges including:

  • Two counts of causing injury by dangerous driving
  • One count of dangerous driving
  • Driving while disqualified
  • Driving without insurance
  • Driving under the influence of drink or drugs
  • Failing to provide a specimen

Initially, Morrison tried to pin the blame on someone else. But he later pleaded guilty to all charges.

Judge Slams ‘Complete Disregard’—Jails Driver for Nearly Four Years

At York Crown Court, the judge condemned Morrison’s “horrific series of manoeuvres” and said the driver showed “complete disregard” for public safety. The court handed him three years and nine months behind bars. On top of that, Morrison received an eight-year, ten-month driving ban and must pass an extended retest before he can get back on the road.

“Morrison showed no regard whatsoever for the lives of other road users, and left two people with horrendous injuries that have changed their lives,” said Detective Sergeant Kirsten Aldridge.

“To lie about who was driving and try to shift blame was cowardly and deceitful. Driving while disqualified may seem minor to some, but as this case shows, it puts everyone at risk.”

The police pursuit and crash triggered a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. That investigation is still ongoing.
