Life for Life: Killer Stabbed Innocent Man in Bournemouth
Lawangeen Abdulrahimzai, from Poole, has been handed life imprisonment with a minimum of 29 years after being found guilty of the brutal murder of 21-year-old Thomas Roberts.
Knife Attack Sparks Horror on Bournemouth Streets
The chilling attack took place at 4.30am in March 2022, right outside a Subway on Old Christchurch Road. Thomas Roberts was trying to calm down a fight between a friend and Abdulrahimzai over an unattended electric scooter when he was stabbed twice in the left side. The victim collapsed as Abdulrahimzai fled the scene.
Passersby performed first aid until police and paramedics arrived, but despite desperate efforts, Thomas was pronounced dead at 8.10am.
Police Hunt Links Killer to Past Murders
Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team launched a swift probe, tracing Abdulrahimzai through a phone left nearby and CCTV footage. He was arrested in the early hours of 13 March 2022.
During the investigation, shocking details emerged. Abdulrahimzai had a violent past, convicted in Serbia for murdering two people in 2018 — a sentence handed down in his absence after he fled the country. He also had a drug conviction from Italy in 2017.
Detective Pleads for Knife Crime Awareness
“Our thoughts remain with Thomas Roberts’ family and loved ones, who have suffered an unspeakable loss,” said Detective Chief Inspector Simon Huxter.
