Driver Jailed for Six Years Over Fatal Crash That Killed Police Worker
A young driver has been locked up for six years after a tragic head-on smash that killed a police staff member in Leicester.
Crash on A47: Dangerous Overtake Ends in Death
On Saturday 3 July 2021, 23-year-old Local Support Team Officer Darcy Elizabeth Reid was driving her Nissan Micra along the A47 Hinckley Road near Braunstone Park. Suddenly, Connor Wilsher, 21, tried to overtake another car on a bend in his VW Golf and crashed head-on into Darcy’s vehicle.
Darcy suffered multiple injuries and sadly died in hospital weeks later. Shockingly, Wilsher fled the scene but was caught shortly after when he sought treatment at hospital.
Connor Wilsher Pleads Guilty, Sentenced to Six Years
- Wilsher admitted dangerous driving and failing to stop after the crash.
- He’s now sentenced to six years behind bars at Leicester Crown Court.
- He’s banned from driving for two years and must pass an extended re-test before getting his licence back.
Detective Sergeant Ed Des-Chanelle said: “Wilsher initially denied involvement but evidence proved he caused the collision by overtaking on a bend and hitting Darcy’s car. He’s now facing a lengthy prison term for his actions.”
“Nothing will bring Darcy back but with justice done, we hope her family can start to move forward.”
Family Mourns, Demands Privacy
Simon Reid, Darcy’s father, spoke out: “Thank you to our family liaison officer and the police for their support and hard work to get justice.”
“This sentence won’t bring Darcy back. We started a life sentence the day she died. We now ask to be left alone to grieve our beloved daughter.”
