Swindon Motorist Caught Driving on Bald Tyres Sparks High-Speed Police Chase

BMW X1 Spotted With Two Flat Tyres

Adam Wrobel, 53, from Milverton Court, Swindon, was arrested on January 27 after police caught him careering along Dorcan Way in a BMW X1 dangerously riding on two completely deflated tyres pulling off the alloys.

Driver Refuses to Stop, Sparks Pursuit

Officers signalled for Wrobel to pull over. He complied briefly but refused to exit the car during a Traffic Offence Report for his vehicle’s hazardous state. Suddenly, he fired up the engine and sped off.

Nearby officers authorised a chase and deployed a stinger to puncture Wrobel’s remaining tyres. The BMW was eventually boxed in by police units.

Crash and Collision With Police Vehicle

Wrobel then floored the accelerator, ramming a police car’s bumper before smashing into a nearby bus shelter, luckily empty at the time. Witnesses feared for pedestrians’ lives.

Judge Hands Down Suspended Sentence and Ban

Last week in court, Wrobel pled guilty to dangerous driving. He received an 18-month driving ban and a 16-week prison sentence suspended for 18 months. He must complete 180 hours unpaid work and pay £85 CPS costs plus a £154 surcharge.

A/Insp Will Ayres said: “The sentence reflects the seriousness of Wrobel’s actions. He drove a vehicle in a clearly dangerous and unroadworthy state — one front tyre was bare, literally scrapping the road surface.”

“Wrobel then rammed a police car to evade capture, risking other road users and pedestrians. It was incredibly lucky no one was at the bus stop when he crashed. This could have ended in tragedy.”
