Rochdale Gunman Locked Up for 9 Years After High-Speed Pursuit
Ahad Hussain, from West Street, Rochdale, has been handed a nine-year prison sentence for firearm possession, intent to supply drugs, and dangerous driving. The sentencing took place at Minshull Street Crown Court on Friday 6 January 2023.
Police Chase Ends in Crash and Arrest
The drama unfolded on Tuesday 11 October 2022 at around 11am, when Hussain’s Volkswagen Jetta sparked a police pursuit on Tweedale Street, Rochdale. The chase ended when his car crashed into a Mercedes 4×4. Officers detained Hussain at the scene after he failed to stop and drove erratically.
He was rushed to Fairfield Hospital in Bury with serious injuries, thankfully not life-threatening. Shortly after, police safely recovered a concealed firearm and £2,800 worth of Class A drugs found on Hussain’s person, avoiding any danger to the public.
Licence Breach and Investigation
It emerged Hussain was driving on a provisional licence, uninsured and breaking strict rules. Police set up a scene at the hospital for further investigation before officially charging him.
Detective Sergeant Andy Whitehill of GMP’s Child Protection Unit said: “This was a proactive stop by our officers after their ‘police instinct’ kicked in. What followed was a fast-paced but swift incident and investigation concerning a person who posed a direct threat to the public. The sentence highlights the severity of the offences and our commitment to keep the community safe from criminals.”
