Young Dealer Snared in Undercover Police Sting in Gillingham
Plainclothes Cops Catch Ojo Selling Class A Drugs
Odyssius Ojo thought he could fly under the radar. But undercover officers spotted the 19-year-old handing out class A drugs to two buyers in Strover Street, Gillingham, last May. The plainclothes officers were on proactive patrol when they swooped, quickly detaining him.
Dealer Caught Red-Handed with Heroin and Crack Cocaine
After being stopped just after 9.45pm on 21 May 2021, Ojo tried to ditch his mobile phone and even struggled briefly before police arrested him. On arrest, he confessed to possessing drugs and pulled two packages from his clothing, revealing 77 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine ready for sale. Officers also recovered two ounces of unprepared class A drugs and seized £230 in cash, the proceeds of his drug dealing.
On Bail But Back to Selling Drugs
This wasn’t Ojo’s first brush with the law. He was already on court bail for previous charges of possessing heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply, stemming from a July 2019 incident where police caught him supply drugs in an alley on Franklin Road. Despite fleeing initially, he was caught hiding in a garden and later pleaded guilty, receiving an 18-month concurrent sentence.
Ojo faced Maidstone Crown Court on 21 July 2021 and has been held in custody since his arrest. Charges include possession with intent to supply and acquiring criminal property.
Police Vow to Crack Down on Medway Drug Dealers
Detective Constable Mark Donovan of Kent Police’s County Lines and Gangs Team said: “Our officers are always out in plain clothes, ready to pounce on any suspicious activity. There is no place in Medway, or anywhere in Kent, for people trying to make money from selling class A drugs. We’ll continue to target them and take the toughest action possible.”
