A breath test blew a staggering 136mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath – that’s nearly ten times above the legal limit for police officers, set at 13mg. This wasn’t his first time on the lash either; the officer had already been warned for a previous drinking incident in April.
Public Confidence Slammed
Though his representative argued that the incident inside the station didn’t affect the public, Assistant Commissioner Barbara Gray wasn’t having it. She slammed the episode as “clearly capable of bringing discredit on the police service and undermining public confidence in policing.”
Career Cut Short After 20 Years
The officer, once praised for his counter-terrorism work, was found guilty of gross misconduct and sacked without notice, ending a two-decade career in disgrace.
