Family Trafficking Gang Jailed After Shocking Modern Slavery Trial

Four members of the same family from Enfield were handed tough sentences on Friday, 25 March, at Reading Crown Court. They were found guilty in a gruelling seven-week trial at Wood Green Crown Court back in December 2021.

Who Got What?

  • Izabela Dytlow, 47, of Tottenhall Road, Enfield – slammed with nine years in prison for trafficking a person into the UK for exploitation, servitude, and multiple fraud charges.
  • Szanel Dytlow, 19, same address – got 16 months custody, suspended for two years plus 180 hours of unpaid work for holding a person in servitude.
  • Andrzej Kasparowicz, 63, same address – nine years in prison for servitude, fraud, and money laundering.
  • Kamil Wesolowski, 22, same address – 12 months custody suspended for two years, 120 hours unpaid work, and 15 days rehab for holding a person in servitude.

Inside the Horror: Victim’s Nightmare Revealed

A woman in her 40s from a poor Polish family became the tragic victim. Lured to England in 2014 with the promise of paid care work, she ended up trapped in modern day slavery for over five years.

Forced to slave away for long hours, every day, without a penny paid, she was made to sleep in a garden shed or on the floor in filthy conditions. Isolated from family and with her ID confiscated, the victim was trapped in misery.

Neighbours raised the alarm after spotting her cleaning the family cars in all weather, and suffering visibly poor living conditions. Police visits were met with denials, mostly due to language barriers and threats by the family.

Eventually, with the help of a Polish-speaking officer and after a long struggle, the victim was persuaded to escape. “It’s like a dream, I cannot believe I am now free,” she told officers — overwhelmed even by a simple cup of coffee.

Police Praise Courage, Call for Vigilance

Detective Constable Petra Williams said: “This investigation revealed horrendous crimes committed by a family exploiting a vulnerable victim who hoped for a better life in the UK. Thanks to brave neighbours and multi-agency cooperation, the victim is now free.”

Senior Crown Prosecutor Patricia Strobino added: “The victim’s courage and neighbours’ quick action ensured justice. The CPS stands firm against those exploiting vulnerable people.”

Spot the Signs – Help Fight Modern Slavery

London police warn that victims of forced labour and exploitation hide in plain sight — working in construction, car washes, agriculture, nail bars, and more. Language barriers and fear stop many from seeking help.
