Ex-PC Busted for Sexual Misconduct and Lies During Training

Probationary Officer in Hot Water

Matthew Lawrence-Stearn, a probationary police officer, has been slammed for inappropriate behaviour and lewd comments towards female colleagues during his training from August to November 2021.

The allegations included sexualised behaviour and offensive remarks aimed at fellow students.

Fake Military Claims Uncovered

Not only was Lawrence-Stearn accused of misconduct, but he also allegedly lied about serving in Kabul and completing a tour with the armed forces. In reality, he joined the Royal Auxiliary Air Force Squadron but quit training after just 35 days without deploying.

Police Misconduct Hearing Finds Him Guilty

The case was heard over Microsoft Teams on March 13-14. An independent panel led by Monica Daley-Campbell confirmed the claims were true. Had he still been serving, Lawrence-Stearn would have been sacked on the spot.

Force Sends Strong Message

Deputy Chief Constable Andy Prophet slammed Lawrence-Stearn’s conduct as “utterly unacceptable” and below the force’s high standards.

“We expect the highest standards of professional behaviour from all officers and staff and take a robust approach in dealing with any allegation of poor conduct.”

“The behaviour was further compounded by his dishonesty. We do not want people who display this kind of behaviour. He was a student probationer who never made it to serve our communities.”

“I want to thank those who reported his inappropriate behaviour for their integrity and professionalism.”

“We encourage anyone to report something that’s not right as fast as possible and it’s really important that they do so.”

“I want officers and staff to have the confidence to report things and have an effective system for doing so.”
