Glossop Teen Jailed Over Links to US Terror Attacks

A 19-year-old from Glossop has been locked up for 11-and-a-half years after his extreme right-wing videos were cited by a man who slaughtered ten in a terrorist attack in the US.

From Online Hate to Real-World Threat

Daniel John Harris didn’t just spread hate online—he tried to build a 3D-printed gun. Between February 2021 and March 2022, Harris uploaded five extremist videos praising the 2019 New Zealand terrorist attacks, condemning peaceful protests, and calling for the death of criminal justice workers.

His vile clips were referenced seven times by the racist attacker who killed ten at a Buffalo supermarket in May 2022. Another Harris video appeared on the website linked to a murderer who killed five at a Colorado gay club later that year.

Police Act After Radical Content Surfaces

Harris was arrested by Counter-Terrorism Policing East Midlands just two days after the Buffalo massacre. At Manchester Crown Court, he was found guilty of five counts of encouraging terrorism and one of possessing terror-related material.

Despite interventions including Prevent referrals, police say Harris wasn’t groomed but was instead spreading dangerous extremist content to radicalise others.

Hard-Hitting Message from Authorities

“Harris presents as an unassuming, quiet young man, but scratch the surface and it’s a more sinister picture,” said Detective Inspector Chris Brett.

“He was making a concerted effort to generate a following and influence others with his hateful videos. Even after arrest, he tried to obstruct our investigation.”

“Anyone sharing or creating extremist content online risks jail time. This case shows such behaviour can have deadly consequences.”

Harris now faces three years on licence after his prison term. Authorities hope his sentence sends a strong warning to others dabbling in far-right terror propaganda.
