Couple Caught at Channel Tunnel with Cash Stash Lose Court Battle

Stopped at Folkestone Terminal

Ardian Sharra, 51, and Valbona Laloshi, 41, from Tring, raised suspicion when their Mercedes was stopped by the National Crime Agency at the Channel Tunnel terminal in Folkestone, Kent, back in May 2020.

Family Trip or Money Laundering?

The pair were travelling with their three children, claiming they were heading to visit relatives in Brescia. But the story didn’t stack up — both were charged with money laundering offences, which they initially denied.

Guilty Pleas Mid-Trial

On Monday, 3 April, in the middle of their trial at Canterbury Crown Court, the couple flipped and pleaded guilty.

Sentences and Forfeiture

  • Ardian Sharra received an 18-month suspended sentence and 200 hours of unpaid work.
  • Valbona Laloshi was handed a 12-month community order plus 50 hours of unpaid work.

The seized cash will be forfeited as proceeds of crime, marking a victory for law enforcement against money laundering.
