Jealous Husband Jailed for Brutal Murder After Ordering Wife to Swallow Wedding Ring

17 Years Behind Bars for Shocking Attack

A jealous husband has been locked up for a minimum of 17 years after brutally murdering his estranged wife in their Hampshire home. Shaun Dyson, 28, viciously stamped on 30-year-old Lucy-Anne Rushton in Andover on 23 June.

Children Witnessed Horror of ‘Brutal’ Assault

At Winchester Crown Court, it emerged that children were inside the property during the savage attack. Dyson, from Anna Valley, initially pleaded guilty to manslaughter but changed his plea to murder mid-trial. Judge Akhlaq Choudhury QC slammed Dyson’s “jealous, controlling and violent nature,” saying his fury led to a horrifying assault.

“You kicked, punched and stamped on Lucy innumerable times whilst she was lying on the floor, unarmed, inebriated and half-naked.”

Grim Injuries Reveal Ferocity of Beating

The post-mortem revealed Ms Rushton, a mother of five, suffered 37 broken ribs, a fractured breastbone, and collapsed lungs. The couple, married in Gretna Green in 2010, had a “toxic and volatile” relationship, the court heard.

Tense Phone Call Sparks Fatal Rage

Prosecutor Simon Jones explained Dyson exploded after Ms Rushton took a call from an ex on 22 June. A child at the scene told the court Dyson forced Ms Rushton to swallow her wedding ring, shouting, “Swallow the ring because we’re not together anymore.” The ring was later found untouched on the stairs, suggesting she hadn’t swallowed it.

Family Left Devastated

In a heart-wrenching victim impact statement, Ms Rushton’s mother, Myra Simpson, said:

“As a family Shaun Dyson has destroyed us completely, completely broken every single one of us. Our lives will never be the same, he has ruined her children’s lives forever. They no longer have a mum to watch them grow up, to just be there when they need her.”

Chilling Details of the Night

The child awake at around 4am heard “hitting noises” and shouting. Mr Jones described the assault as “brutal, violent and unlawful,” stressing the beating was “prolonged and very severe” with repeated stamping, jumping, and kicking.

Dyson later made a “strikingly calm” 999 call. Paramedics found Lucy-Anne’s lifeless body on a bed. Following the attack, Dyson disappeared, messaging police, friends, and family over ten hours, falsely claiming she had drowned after he threw water on her to wake her up.
