Dirty Bedsit Rape Shocker in Bishop Auckland Pizza Shop
Swara Jubrahil Mohammad has been slammed by a Durham Crown Court jury for raping a teenage girl in a grimy bedsit above a pizza shop in Bishop Auckland.
The 23-year-old flatmate denied the crime, claiming he’d met the victim before. But a unanimous jury saw through his lies and convicted him after a three-day trial.
Victim Breaks Silence on Horrific Assault
Prosecutor Jonathan Walker read out a heart-wrenching impact statement from the victim. She revealed how the attack left her “very emotional” for weeks and plagued by nightly flashbacks. Though she feels “slightly easier” now, she struggles around strangers, especially men, and hasn’t been in a relationship since.
Walker also said the crime involved “a degree of violence” and some pre-planning, including an offer of alcohol that the victim refused.
Defendant’s Past and Court Verdict
Mohammad, from Stockton, only came to the UK in November 2017 after fleeing a brutal attack in Kirkuk, northern Iraq, his lawyer told the court.
But Judge James Adkin was having none of it. He described the rape as “painful and degrading” and slammed Mohammad for lying throughout the trial, fabricating stories about previous meetings with the victim.
“She described the ongoing impact on her, having flashbacks, and you showed no remorse for what you did,”
The judge handed down a stiff 66-month prison sentence. Mohammad must serve at least half behind bars before potential deportation on licence.
Judge Adkin made it clear: “Deportation should be automatic.”
