Lorry Driver Jailed for Horror Head-On Crash on Paddock Wood Road
Sergejs Mikulovs has been sentenced after his lorry careered onto the wrong side of the road, smashing into an oncoming car and sparking a fiery crash.
Crash Details: Speeding Lorry Causes Devastation
The shocking smash happened at 6.40pm on 12 July 2021. Mikulovs, driving an articulated lorry along Seven Mile Lane towards a depot in Paddock Wood, lost control on a bend near Willow Wents junction.
His lorry hurtled onto the wrong side of the road and collided head-on with a Vauxhall Corsa. The impact caused the car to burst into flames and slam onto a nearby grass verge.
Two Women Severely Injured, One Facing Lifelong Care
Inside the Corsa were a woman and her adult daughter. Both suffered serious injuries. Emergency crews treated them at the scene before rushing them to a London hospital.
Police investigations revealed Mikulovs was pushing nearly 60mph on a 50mph limit road when he lost control.
Mikulovs Sentenced for Dangerous Driving
The 42-year-old from Fulmar Road, Strood, pleaded guilty to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
On 24 March 2023, Maidstone Crown Court jailed Mikulovs for 22 months. He was banned from driving for almost three years and must pass an extended test before getting back behind the wheel.
“A lapse in concentration can have devastating consequences,” said PC Chris Oliver-Jones from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit. “Mikulovs was simply going too fast to safely navigate a road he knew well. Drivers must always adjust to conditions every time they drive.”
“The Corsa’s driver stood almost no chance to avoid the collision. Two people now face appalling injuries, with one requiring lifelong care.”
