Lorry Driver Jailed for Death of Young Motorcyclist in Shocking Road Crash

Lucian-Sorin Todor, 52, has been slammed with an eight-year prison sentence at Winchester Crown Court today (October 1). The jury found him guilty of death by dangerous driving back in August. On top of that, he’s banned from getting behind the wheel for five years after his release – with an extended driving retest to come.

Fatal Crash on Blind Bend

The court heard how Todor, from Andrew Crescent, Waterlooville, was driving an articulated lorry through Warnford on June 29, 2019. He tried to overtake a cyclist on a dangerous bend, crossing double white lines on a narrow single carriageway. This reckless move forced two cars and a motorbike coming the other way to brake sharply.

The motorcyclist, 22-year-old Jack Burgess from Hillside Close, Waterlooville, lost control and was thrown from his bike. Jack died in hospital the next day from fatal injuries.

Justice Served – But No Remorse from Driver

“Todor has shown no remorse for his crime, and we are pleased to see that justice has been done,” said PS Jon Bates of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, who led the inquiry.

“We hope today’s sentencing gives some closure to Jack’s family and reminds everyone that fatal crashes will be thoroughly investigated.”

Family Speak Out After Verdict

“We are so glad Todor was found guilty and jailed,” Jack’s family said. “It’s been a long, painful two years, but now we can start to heal and remember the good times with Jack.”

“Todor never showed us any regret or empathy for the life he took.”

“Huge thanks to the police officers who supported us – Jon Bates, Simon Bradbury, Emma Pragnell and Rob Lewis – and to our barrister, Tom Wilkins, who went above and beyond.”

“We think of Jack every day and will miss him forever.”
