Ex Brutally Attacks Mum Before Sharing Intimate Photos – Jailed
Christopher Crotty was slammed by Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday after being found guilty of assault causing serious harm and illegally publishing private photos. The aggressive dad-of-one saw his world come crashing down following a violent outburst during a visit to his ex-partner’s home.
Drink-Fuelled Rage Ends in Brutal Assault
Prosecutor Thomas McLoughlin revealed how the trouble started on the evening of September 26, 2021. Crotty visited his ex and their child. What began with shared drinks quickly spiralled out of control as Crotty’s mood darkened.
“The drink served as a catalyst for the defendant’s aggressive behaviour, and he started to accuse her of being unfaithful,” said McLoughlin.
The victim went upstairs to prepare for bed, but the row escalated when Crotty blasted out loud music. She rushed downstairs and demanded he stop – sparking terrifying violence.
Shocking Assault in Front of Their Child
McLoughlin described how Crotty threw the woman into a coffee table, causing bleeding, and shoved her, leaving a graze on her leg. He then assaulted her in bursts – hitting, kicking, and yanking her hair while their child was inside the house.
Before storming off, Crotty seized the victim’s phone and unlocked it. He discovered intimate photos she had taken without his knowledge. Then, in a cruel betrayal, he sent these private images along with nasty texts to her mother and brother.
Victim Left Traumatized as Court Hears Abuse of Trust
The victim gave a heartfelt impact statement, revealing the deep emotional scars:
“I was made to feel helpless and pitiful, and he led me to believe that he was the only person who cared about me while, in fact, the reverse was true. He simply used and manipulated me.”
Crotty, 35, claimed the injuries were self-inflicted. However, his tarnished past includes 33 prior offences, with four related to violence.
Defence lawyer Anthony O’Donohoe admitted the incident was “shameful” but argued the physical injuries were “hard to determine” and described Crotty as a “complex and occasionally difficult individual” lacking foresight.
District Judge Gwyn Jones slammed Crotty’s “domineering” behaviour, adding:
“You treated her in such a way that she felt unsafe in the house she was living in.”
The judge recounted the victim’s testimony detailing how Crotty punched and restrained her, even kicking her ribs, then tried to blame her for the attack.
Sentenced to 27 Months Behind Bars
Crotty, from Kremlin Drive, Tuebrook, was handed a 27-month prison sentence and slapped with a restraining order banning contact with both the victim and her mother.
