Jealousy Sparks Brutal Daylight Shooting

A young man in his 20s was shot multiple times in a shocking broad daylight attack in Merton. Daniel Gaudin and Shannon Rule travelled by train from Waltham Forest to carry out the horrifying assault in front of terrified onlookers.

Couple Jailed After Failed Escape

On Wednesday, 5 April, both appeared at Kingston Crown Court for sentencing. Shannon Rule, 23, from Chingford, was jailed for 30 years. Daniel Gaudin, 23, from Waltham Cross, received 27 years plus a two-year extended licence.

Lies, Love Triangle and Cold-Blooded Ambush

  • Rule was found guilty of attempted murder on 22 December after a trial.
  • Gaudin pleaded guilty earlier.
  • The court heard Rule had been dating both the victim and Gaudin—two men who didn’t know each other.
  • Jealous Gaudin sent threatening texts to the victim.
  • Gaudin persuaded Rule to lure the victim to Morden for a “meeting”.
  • The victim, unaware of the trap, agreed to meet Rule alone.
  • Once at the location, Gaudin appeared and shot the man multiple times.
  • Onlookers witnessed the terrifying attack.
  • Police arrived shortly after the 2:03pm shooting on 22 June 2021.
  • The victim was rushed to hospital with life-changing injuries and still requires ongoing care.

Failed Getaway Leads to Arrest

The pair fled but their escape route brought them right back near the crime scene, where armed officers arrested them. Rule denied knowing about the gun or Gaudin’s intentions, but texts she sent to the victim warning him about the firearm exposed her lies.

Detective Inspector Iain Wallace, who led the investigation, said:

“The sentences handed down show how seriously the Judge deemed the actions of Rule and Gaudin. Our thoughts are with the young man whose life was shattered by this cruel act of jealousy. He had no idea what was coming and his injuries will affect him forever. We hope today’s convictions bring some comfort to him and his family.”

“Gaudin and Rule have lost their freedom due to their cold, calculated attack. Violence has no place on our streets, and the Met will do everything to bring offenders to justice.”
