Marcelle DaCosta Found Guilty of Rape in Chilling Enfield Assault

Marcelle DaCosta, 36, from West End Avenue, Leyton, was unanimously convicted of rape at Wood Green Crown Court on Monday, 16 January. He faces sentencing on Tuesday, 8 February, at the same court.

Victim Targeted at Multiple Parties

The victim, a woman in her twenties, attended a party in Enfield on 16 January 2021. After leaving, she went to two more gatherings with DaCosta and two others. Despite trying to leave twice, she eventually fell asleep early on 7 February 2021 at the second address, where DaCosta brutally raped her.

Swift Police Action and Investigation

  • The victim reported the attack to police six days later, on 13 February 2021.
  • Detectives from the North Area Public Protection team launched an investigation immediately.
  • Specially trained officers supported the victim through the process.
  • DaCosta was arrested on 19 April 2021 and charged on 23 December 2021.

Detective Condemns “Predatory” Attack

“DaCosta is an extremely dangerous individual,” said Detective Sergeant Myles Bossman, who led the probe. “In what can only be described as predatory behaviour, he subjected a woman he barely knew to serious sexual assault with no remorse. As she slept, the victim was at her most vulnerable.” “This conviction shows that violence against women will not be tolerated. With the help of her courage, the community, and witnesses, this brave woman brought a dangerous offender to justice. I hope this outcome offers some closure after her traumatic ordeal.” “The Met urges anyone affected by sexual assault to come forward. Such heinous crimes will be pursued relentlessly and justice will be served.”
