PC Sam Grigg Caught in Shocking Off-Duty Scandal
Former South West Command PC Sam Grigg pleaded guilty on Thursday, 5 January, at Kingston Crown Court. He faces sentencing on Friday, 10 February.
Illegal Restraint Incident Leads to Immediate Sacking
Grigg admitted to discreditable conduct at a misconduct hearing on 30 January. The shock comes after an incident in Twickenham on 2 December, where he used tape to unlawfully restrain a woman he knew—while off duty. He later cut her free with a knife, injuring her.
He was arrested the same day after the case was reported on 6 December and charged on 8 December, leading to an immediate suspension. He has since been fired without explanation.
Met Police Condemn Grigg’s Actions
“PC Grigg’s behaviour was totally unacceptable, and I know it will cause concern among members of the public,” said Commander Jon Savell, head of the Met’s professional standards. “He’s let down the Met and colleagues committed to keeping Londoners safe.”
“We acted swiftly to suspend him as soon as his offending came to light and have removed him from the force. We are determined to maintain a Met the public can trust and will not hesitate to remove anyone who fails to meet our high standards.”
Blacklisted from Policing and Emergency Services
Grigg will be added to the College of Policing’s Barred List, banning him from working for any police service, local policing bodies, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary, or Fire and Rescue Services.
