Stalker Jailed After Week-Long Ordeal Across England
Jonathan Cook, 25, dragged a terrified woman on a week-long nightmare across Whitby, Derbyshire, London, and Cornwall. Concerned family members tipped off Nottinghamshire Police, sparking a joint effort with Devon and Cornwall Police. The pair were finally found on Marazion Beach, Cornwall, where Cook was arrested on 16 October 2021.
Relentless Control and Harassment
Cook, from Holbeck Lane, Worksop, didn’t stop there. From March to October last year, he kept contacting the victim despite her begging him to leave her alone. His twisted control tactics included following her in his car, turning up unannounced at her home and other locations, and even speaking to her friends and family to isolate her.
Two-Year Jail Sentence and Long Restraining Order
Cook pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behaviour. On 7 March 2022, Nottingham Crown Court sentenced him to two years behind bars and slapped a 10-year restraining order on him.
“Cook subjected this woman to a truly harrowing ordeal and was unrelenting in his attempts to contact her against her wishes,” said Detective Constable Morgan Fitzpatrick.
“She looked terrified and was visibly shaking when officers found them in Cornwall thanks to good police teamwork.”
“I commend the survivor for her immense bravery and hope the sentence brings her some closure. Nottinghamshire Police take reports like this extremely seriously and will do everything to support victims.”
“You are not alone. We listen, investigate thoroughly, and work to get justice. If you are in danger, call 999. We are here to help.”
